| FORMAT: Web | Improving Writing Performance: A Strategy for Writing Expository Essays | AUTHOR: The IRIS Center |
|
The IRIS STAR Legacy modules cover topics relevant to future teachers, administrators, and other school personnel. These interactive modules use realistic challenges and provide users with multiple resources for resolving the challenges, including expert interviews and summaries of research findings. At the end of the modules, users assess their learning and wrap up the lesson by reviewing a summary of the module content.
This module introduces a writing strategy - - POW+TREE (a research-validated writing strategy) that simplifies the first three elements: planning, organizing, and writing. Specifically, POW is a mnemonic device designed to help students structure any kind of writing. TREE is also a mnemonic device used to organize expository writing styles (e.g., descriptive, persuasive, informational).
