FORMAT: Web Ohio Social Studies Resource Center (OSSRC)

The Ohio Social Studies Resource Center (OSSRC) exists to enhance teaching and learning through the identification and posting of quality web-based resources that promote best teaching practices. The OSSRC has made steady progress to create and promote an effective delivery system that provides free access to peer-reviewed resources to all Ohio social studies educators.

Twelve partnering agencies presently serve the OSSRC and have exemplified their commitment to working together to improve the teaching and learning resources available to Ohio social studies educators. Their mission is twofold; to ensure that students are armed with the knowledge they need in the global economy to be successful in the work force and higher education, and to endorse the value and importance of social studies education.

ODE Program Models: In partnership with the Ohio Department of Education the OSSRC has developed dynamic webpages that outline social studies program model course frameworks for World Studies and U.S. Studies developed by the Ohio Department of Education. These models demonstrate how the standards might be organized for instruction. A model clarifies how the social studies standards can be packaged into courses and how courses can be sequenced. Additionally, the OSSRC has identified quality web-based resources that align to the Ohio Academic Content Standards and that support the ninth and tenth grade course curricula for each of the three social studies models. 28 units of study are outlined in the program models. The OSSRC has created a data file for each one of these units. While exploring the data files users will find assigned social studies benchmarks, as outlined in the program models, OSSRC reviewed resources, and

published teaching strategies, created by qualified Ohio social studies teachers.

The model programs can be accessed by going to the OSSRC Web site at the address listed below and clicking on the ODE Model Program logo.
